The Bedfordshire Schools Trust (BEST) is a multi-academy trust providing exceptional education across our community of 10 schools and five nurseries. Since forming in 2016, we have grown significantly into one of the largest single employers in Central Bedfordshire. We now educate more than 5,000 children across the area, from nursery age to advanced level study. It is our aim to grow the BEST in everyone, and everything we do is driven by our values, but our aims can only be achieved if we recruit, retain and develop the highest quality workforce – and we want those we employ to be valued in the workplace. The first five years of BEST has been a real success story – and we are looking forward to an exciting future, too.

We openly encourage all potential applicants to come and spend some time with us prior to submitting an application. Please get in touch to arrange a time to come and visit our fabulous school, have a coffee/tea with SLT and the Department who would be happy to answer any questions you might have about Samuel Whitbread Academy!

We would like to appoint a highly committed, inspirational and enthusiastic Teacher of Humanities (Geography and History) to join very dedicated and friendly teams in September 2024.

The Geography and History Departments consist of eleven members, many of whom also hold other positions of responsibility across the Academy. This enables us to draw from many areas of expertise which we share between each other. With 800 students being taught at GCSE all staff are expected to teach at this level. Both subjects deliver A-Level and as much as possible Teachers have sole ownership of their own classes. All members of the team support with enrichment activities and extra-curricular opportunities.

If you have a passion for humanities and improving student progress and outcomes, Samuel Whitbread Academy will be able to satisfy your aspiration, support you to improve your pedagogy and, encourage you to take risks.

This role will involve working closely with the students at Samuel Whitbread Academy and you will be engaging in regulated activity with children.

Samuel Whitbread Academy

We offer an exceptional academic and extracurricular experience at Samuel Whitbread Academy in an outstanding learning environment where students are expected to work hard and achieve their best.

In our last Ofsted inspection, we were judged as ‘Good’ with many outstanding features and over the next three years we have set ourselves the target of being Outstanding!

Our GCSE results are amongst the best in the Local Authority. We offer a well-balanced curriculum with plenty of choice to prepare our students for the next stage in their lives. Most of our students continue on to the Sixth Form, which is one of the largest and highest performing in the area - providing students with a huge range of courses designed to match the expectations of universities and employers.

Our pastoral care is exceptional and we have dedicated pastoral support teams for each Year Group. The Academy is also broken down into five houses, named after people who have made a distinctive contribution to our community. These provide the framework for the multitude of different competitions, celebrations and charity events that bring our school community together during the year.

Extra-curricular opportunity is a vital part of our ethos and we expect all of our students to get involved in at least one club or activity. There are a huge number of opportunities ranging from highly competitive sports teams to spectacular drama and musical performances.

We enjoy showing visitors around the school so please take the opportunity to come and see us during the school day, so you can see Samuel Whitbread Academy in action and we can answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.
