Headteacher job summary

We are excited to advertise an amazing opportunity as Headteacher of Springfield Junior School, part of QEGSMAT. We were inspected in March 2024 and graded 'Good' in all areas. Our school, based in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, is a vibrant community with pupils and staff who are proud to be here, and enthusiastic about their learning.

Our school has 195 pupils from years 3 to 6, including an Enhanced Resource which meets the needs of 16 pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan.

We are seeking a self-motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate leader who is ready to embed the work we have begun, and to continue driving forward the progress made so far. In a community with a higher-than-average level of pupil premium, we build in opportunities for our pupils to explore the wider world, with residentials, trips and visits which broaden cultural capital, and sporting teams which are both popular and successful. We have a strong School Ambassador programme, with pupils passionate about their roles. Our teachers and support staff dedicate their time and energy to helping all our pupils feel safe, happy and welcome (supported by the school’s  'happy hens'!).

We are seeking a Headteacher who can lead and inspire, and shape the strategic direction of the school. You will be able to work collaboratively with our Trust’s central team, who will support you and who are a regular presence in the school. You will have a great sense of humour and be ready to enjoy and embrace the successes and challenges of headship, knowing you will have a great team of people there alongside you.

Why work for us?

  • Continual access to CPD opportunities. QEGSMAT works with a large number of organisations to develop staff to fulfil their aspirations and potential. We are committed to providing first-rate training and development to all our staff within this evolving Trust.
  • We are committed to promoting equality, challenging discrimination, and developing community cohesion. We welcome applications from all sections of the community.
  • All staff have access to our Employee Assistance Programme which provides confidential, independent and unbiased information and guidance 24/7. This can also include bespoke counselling sessions for staff if needed.
  • All roles are subject to nationally agreed terms and conditions of service.
  • Access to Teacher Pension Scheme employer contributions of 28.68% for Teachers.
  • Family-friendly policies.
  • Access to Flu Vaccines.
  • Opportunity to work flexibly

Opportunities for a walk around the school are available on the 3rd May (morning) and 8th May (afternoon). If you are interested and wish to have an informal conversation to discuss the role or would like to visit the school, we would be happy to arrange this. Please contact Sharon Taylor on 01335 340830.
