What skills and experience we're looking for
Outwood Academy Adwick seeks applications for an excellent leader of Physical Education. Preferably teacher of Boys PE (L1-L5). The academy boasts outstanding indoor and outdoor facilities to deliver a broad and extensive curriculum and a range of enrichment opportunities and experiences.
We are seeking a leader who will ensure the physical education curriculum and facilities are a beacon of health and sporting excellence within our community, building and linking with local groups and sport establishments.
What the school offers its staff
The Physical Education Department at Outwood Academy Adwick consists of 8 subject specialists with expertise in practical physical education, BTEC Sport and Health and Social Care. The department has an outstanding level of expertise with staff ranging from MPS to senior leadership level. This level of expertise allows for fantastic opportunities for collaborative planning and CPD. This in turn, reflects the excellent learning outcomes for students from Lower School to Level 3 and are further reinforced by the fantastic facilities at our disposal.
The department is based in a purpose-built stand-alone building, constructed in 2010. We would welcome the opportunity for candidates to visit the academy prior to applications to view our outstanding modern facilities including floodlit 3G football pitches, multi-use game areas, sports hall, activity suite, air conditioned cardio, resistant and free-weight gym, and extensive sports fields for athletics and outdoor games and classrooms including an IT suite.
The PE curriculum covers Year 7 through to Year 13. We are proud to offer opportunities which go beyond the national curriculum and offer Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications. A significant number of students participate and represent the academy in local, national and family of schools competitions, and students have gone onto University and employment pursuing their sporting and academic prowess.
All Students receive physical education teaching across a range of activity areas including, football, netball, rugby union, trampolining, gymnastics, basketball, athletics, badminton, rounders, softball, cricket, handball, hockey, table Tennis, fitness and training, team building and outdoor adventurous activities. Assessment is seen through the ability to:
- Lead, healthy, active lifestyles
- Develop competence to excel in broad range of physical activities
- Use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition
- Analyse and evaluate your own performance and demonstrate improvement across a range of physical activities to achieve personal best.
In year 10 and 11 physical education and sport can be chosen through guided pathways in the form of the BTEC Tech Award in Sport. This is in addition to their weekly taught games lesson. The tech award covers areas such as:
Preparing Participants to Take Part in Sport and Physical Activity
Taking Part and Improving Other Participants Sporting Performance
Developing Fitness to Improve Other Participants Performance in Sport and Physical Activity.
It can also be taken at Level 3 through the Extended Certificate Sport covering areas such as anatomy and physiology, sport psychology and careers in sport.

The Level 3 Extended Certificate looks again at Human Lifespan Development and Working in Health and Social Care.

We are an 11-18 academy based just north of the large, friendly, South Yorkshire town of Doncaster.
We have been a member of the Outwood Family since 2009, and in our 2023 Ofsted inspection the academy was graded Good in all categories. The inspection noted ‘the school has a supportive and caring culture. Staff build arm and friendly relationships with pupils. Pupils achieve their full potential. Staff are proud to work at the school’.

The inspectors were equally complimentary about our sixth form provision, with a wide range of courses on offer; including A Levels, vocational qualifications and T-levels.
We have also won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, in addition to being an IQM Centre of Excellence for 3 years, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.
We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.
