Director of SEND and School Improvement job summary
The Gallery Trust, a Special Multi Academy Trust based in Oxfordshire, wishes to recruit a Director of SEND and School Improvement to work with the Chief Executive Officer to support the improvement of standards of academies in the Trust. The successful candidate will play an integral role in the development of the Trust, bringing vision, enthusiasm, and a commitment to enhancing outcomes for students with SEND.
The Director of SEND and School Improvement will be responsible for the consolidation and improvement of standards and performance in the Trust’s establishments, and will work collaboratively with senior leaders across the Trust. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to initiate and manage positive change and will have a strong track record in improving schools. The Director of SEND and School Improvement will have considerable knowledge of SEND and will have experience at a senior level of working with students with SEND.
The Gallery Trust currently has two academies in its Trust: Iffley Academy, judged as Outstanding in 2015 and awarded Teaching School status in 2018, and Bloxham Grove Academy, a free special school scheduled to open in 2020. The Trust has recently opened a resource base in North Oxfordshire and is in formal negotiations with two Oxfordshire special schools who wish to join the Trust. Further expansion is planned, with the aim of reaching 5 – 8 academies and bases by 2023.
The Gallery Trust has an unrivalled reputation for the quality of its work in the SEND arena, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to have a real impact on the development of SEND strategy in Oxfordshire, and on the outcomes for students within the Trust’s academies.
The role will promote the growth strategy and the strategic objectives of The Gallery Trust by:
• Providing leadership and guidance to senior leaders in the Trust’s academies as an improvement adviser, delivering high calibre support designed to consolidate and improve educational outcomes
• Working collaboratively with Head Teachers to improve educational standards of the Trust’s academies, their results and their Ofsted grades.
• Working collaboratively with the Board of Trustees, Local Governing Bodies, and external networks, including Local Authorities, the Department for Education, and the Regional Schools’ Commissioner to embed the Trust’s position as a core contributor to SEND strategy and provision
• Contributing to the measured and sustainable growth of the Trust by helping to attract schools to join or be sponsored, and assisting with the induction and integration of new academies into the Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated educationalist to join a creative and innovative Trust at a crucial point in its development. If you are committed to improving outcomes for pupils with SEND, have a strong track record in delivering improvements in schools and are inspired by the prospect of contributing to the development of a successful Multi Academy Trust, we will welcome your application. Please get in touch if you would like to have an informal discussion with the Chief Executive Officer before submitting your application.
