Skills & Key Criteria

▪ Proven ability to raise standards in classrooms

▪ An understanding of the components which comprise outstanding teaching and learning

▪ Use of assessment information to improve own practice and raise standards

▪ Effective use of different strategies to promote good learning relationships and high rates of progress in an inclusive environment

▪ Use of intervention strategies to address identified issues for individual pupil development and progress

▪ Awareness of the latest developments and initiatives in education

▪ Developing high quality learning strategies and monitoring learner progress to raise attainment

▪ Working effectively as a Mentor, when required

▪ Effective use of Assessment for Learning to engage learners as active participants in their learning

▪ Ability to contribute to curriculum development

▪ Ability to plan and resource effective learning programmes and lessons to meet curricular objectives and individual pupils needs

▪ Ability and willingness to contribute to school and Academy wide planning activities

Knowledge & Experience

▪ Knowledge and experience in EYFS with evidence of outstanding teaching and learning and consistently high standards

▪ Established and evidenced practice as a good / outstanding teacher

▪ Evidence of a commitment to own professional development

▪ Sound knowledge and experience in delivering Read Write Inc effectively

▪ Ability to contribute to the professional development / mentoring of colleagues, as required

▪ Evidence of high achievement in teaching across the age range

▪ A clear understanding of child development which informs teaching

▪ In-depth knowledge and understanding of national primary strategies and research-based approaches in EYFS

▪ Leadership and management experience in EYFS

▪ Strong behaviour management skills, informed by an understanding of child development

  • An ability to take the lead role in innovative curricular development

▪ An understanding of curriculum and pedagogical issues in relation to EYFS

▪ Creative and stimulating teaching strategies which engage and motivate pupils

▪ Knowledge of the principles of good practice and relating to staff supervision

  • Ability to identify problem areas and suggest appropriate measures for improvement

What the school offers its staff

We are very proud of our Early Years unit which is situated in large grounds and housed in a vast, recently renovated and refurbished site which includes a large newly built extension.

Atkinson Road Primary Academy, part of the Laidlaw Schools Trust is a vibrant, warm and welcoming place catering for pupils aged two years to eleven years. The successful candidate will join a successful MAT where all Academies support each other to the benefit of our pupils and their families. Our Academies also enjoy strong support from an experienced LST central team, based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
